Eagle Guide

(currently only in swedish)

• Ha ALLTID schemat öppet när du arbetar med layouten, och vice verca.
• Ställ in griden. View→ Grid: Size 5 mil.
• Ställ in fonten. Options → User interface → Misc: Always use vector font.
• Placera komponenterna med samma layout som i schemat. Justera sedan bredden på kortet så den är ca 66 mil från kanten på alla komponenter.
• Använd Ratsnest-knappen flitigt.
• Tänk efter på vilken sida komponenterna ska monteras. Iom att det är ytmonterat ska givetvis de ytmonterade komponenterna sitta på ena sidan, men de hålmonterade måste sitta på andra sidan för att de ska kunna lödas. använd Mirror-verktyget för att byta sida på en komponent.
• Lägg på ett jordplan på varje sida där du routar. Skriv i kommandoraden: POLY GND. Välj rätt plan, isolate 24 mil och spacing 66 mil för egentillverkling. För maskin är motsvande mått 8 resp. 50 mil. Rita ut jordplanet i en fyrkant utanför kanten på kortet.
• Route:a de kortaste ledingarna först. Använd Route-verktyget.
• I största möjliga mån, routa alltid rakt, eller i enstaka fall 45 grader.
• För egentillverkling, routa med 16 mil bredd på signaler, och 20 mil för supply. Vid maskintillverking motsvarande mått är 10 resp. 16 mil.
• Använd så få vior som möjligt. Välj runda vior, drill 16, diameter 32. Gör via genom att först routa en bit på ena planet, tryck på mittenmusknappen, välj nytt plan, forsätt routa och använd mittknappen för att växla tillbaka.
• Använd Smash-verktyget för att splitta namnet, komponentindex och värdet från komponenten, placera ut komponentindex på ett bra ställe nära komponeten och ta bort namnet och värdet från kortet.
• Se till så inga texter ligger över paddar eller vior.
• Skriv ett namn på kortet samt versionummer med textstorlek 40 och ration 8%, på samma plan som du routat på.
• Kör DRC ofta för att rätta till fel.

Including the avobe guidlines, these things that should be reviewed before sending a PCB for production:

• Always run DRC and ERC.
• Make sure that all components have required decoupling and that they are closely placed the component itself.
• Go trough the datasheet for all components and check that “typical application circuit” matches yours.
• Does all required IOs have pull-up/downs?
• You should have a ground/power-plane on the top and the bottom.
• Check that the card has silcscreen on the correct layer, and soldermask on both sides, and that the PCB is marked with a version number.
• It's wise to protective diods to protect against short-circuit and polarity mismatch.
• If you have dual power source, make sure they does not interfere with each other.
• Verify line width, drill sizes and other requirements by the PCB-manufacturer.
• Make sure that you are not using components that are permanently out of stock and/or outdated.
• Order components first, print out the PCB and check that the footprint matches the real component.
• Check that bipolarity capacitors, diods, ICs have their pin number 1 or positive/negative side marked out on the PCB.
• Contacts, connectors and simular
  • If you have e.g. multiple pin-headers aligned, make sure that they are in a standard grid, or pitch.
  • For clarity, mark out pin-number 1.
  • Check that the connector is not mirrored, if you have switched the component side.
  • Make sure e.q. no big capacitor is blocking the connector-entry, and also so there are space for the housing around it.
  • If you are using pin-headers, make sure that components are low enough for an expansion board to be put in the pin-headers, so they don't stop it from going all down.
  • Make sure connectors are pin-compatible with your interface contact.
• Make sure that you don't have slicscreen on top of pads.
• Is all component names and values readable? Remove the values if its to messy, but always keep the names.
• Holes
  • You should have at least one mouting hole.
  • Make sure that it is room for a bolt/screw/nut around the mounting hole, and that the hole matches the screw that is to be used.
  • Check drill size of regular components and via holes so they are supported by the PCB-manufacturer.
• Gerber files
  • See guide below.
• Are the schematic symbols correct, regarding pin-configuration? Does they match the footprint?
• Have the components the correct power supply regarding voltage and current?
• Check that there is stop-mask on every pad.
